We put equality, diversity and inclusion at the heart of everything we do and celebrate the things that make us all unique. We believe that everyone should have equal access to our services and that our staff all have equality of opportunity.

No-one should face discrimination of any kind in our organisation. The Equality Act 2010 outlines a series of characteristics that are protected by law:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender reassignment
  • Marriage or Civil Partnership
  • Pregnancy or maternity
  • Race
  • Religion or belief (including lack of religion or belief)
  • Sex
  • Sexual orientation

Our commitment to equality ensures that everyone who we support and anyone works at the Trust does not face discrimination of any kind.

Our equality objectives

We reviewed and updated our equality objectives back in 2016, and set ourselves a series of priorities and goals to be achieved by 2020.

Some of things we’re focusing on include implementing the Accessible Information Standard, improving LGBT knowledge in our staff and involving our BME service users in the design and delivery of new services.

The review was carried out using the NHS Equality Delivery System which helps NHS organisations ensure they are meeting their goals.

You can take a look at our objectives and priorities in the report by clicking here.

How we’re performing

As part of our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion we give an update on our progress each year in a series of reports.

In the sections below you’ll find our reports for this year and last year. If you’d like to access documents from earlier than 2017 please email liz.johnson@shsc.nhs.uk
