Our council of governors is formed of elected members of the public, service users, carers and staff. It also includes appointed representatives from local organisations that we work in partnership with.

Governors hold our non-executive directors to account, ensure that the interests of the Trust's members are taken into account and help to shape our plans for the future.

Our governors make sure that the needs of the local population are being met and that staff and service users are fully involved in and consulted on any changes.

All staff, public and service user governors are elected by members of our Trust. Find out more about becoming a member here.

What do our governors do?

Governors play an essential role in our Trust, providing a bridge between our membership, our community and our board. There are statutory duties that governors perform however, most importantly, they represent their communities.

Our governors help us to learn, develop and continue to grow as a Trust. Governors offer valuable contributions to make sure our governance is managed well.

The council of governors meets up to five times a year to discuss the business of the Trust, and governors are involved in other ways like attending meetings and events at our sites and in the community.

You can look at our list of current governors in each of the categories below. If you would like to get in touch with the governor for your area you can contact them by emailing governors@shsc.nhs.uk

Each of our governors must declare any potential conflicts of interest. You can view the council of governors register of interests here.
