Liaison Psychiatry re-accredited with Royal College of Psychiatrists

Earlier this week we received the fantastic news that our Liaison Psychiatry service has received re-accreditation from the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

The service has been accredited since 2017 with the College’s Psychiatric Liaison Accreditation Network (PLAN) and as part of the review demonstrated their compliance with more than 180 care standards.

The Liaison Psychiatry team are based at the Northern General Hospital and carry out around 6,000 assessments every year. They work with patients who are presenting with both physical and mental health needs.

The team provide support and onward referral to appropriate mental health services, as well as providing training for staff working in acute services to help them spot the signs and symptoms of mental health problems.

The PLAN assessors praised the team for their close working ties with colleagues working at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, in particular the good communication, high quality training and 24 hour support they provide.

The service was also praise for their proactive attitude and their ability to respond to, and overcome, challenges.

Julie Sheldon, Team Manager, said: “This is great news for the team, it’s the validation they deserve for all the hard work they do every day. Working to such a strict national standard means that our service users can be assured they are receiving the very best care possible. I’d like to thank everyone in the team for all their hard work to maintain such high standards.”
