Quality Improvement Week - Wednesday 21 October: Equality and inclusivity

The third day of Quality Improvement Week will focus on equality and inclusion.

The events of the past few months have highlighted just how far we have to go to make our society a fair and equal place for everyone, and we are no different. We want to acknowledge the issues we face and talk openly about how we can solve these problems by working together.

In the morning we'll be continuing with our Big Conversation. This project is an opportunity for everyone to talk openly and honestly about racism that exists in SHSC. It's not an easy conversation to have, but it's vital that we do talk about it, listen and take action. At this stage we'll be coming together to discuss themes we've found during the discovery phase of the project and coming up with ideas that could be used to improve things.

We'll also hear about the role of Peer Support Workers and the vital role they place in improving care in our services. In the afternoon you'll have a further opportunity to engage with the Big Conversation, or to take part in LGBTQ+ and Rainbow Badge training.

Improve your focus on your own wellbeing - 9am to 9.10am

Join us for an online session where we'll do a quick session of yoga, Mindfulness or poetry to help us get started for the day.

LGBTQ+ awareness and Rainbow Badge training - 2pm to 3pm

The Rainbow Badge initiative is about making a positive difference by promoting a message of inclusion.

One in five LGBTQ+ people are not out to any healthcare professional about their sexual orientation when seeking general medical care, and one in seven LGBTQ+ people have avoided treatment for fear of discrimination.

The Rainbow Badge is an indication that the person wearing one understands the issues facing LGBTQ+ people who may work in or use our services.

You can get your own Rainbow Badge by coming along to this training session.

Booking is essential for this session as we only have 30 spaces. To book your place email LGBT.staffnetworkgroup@shsc.nhs.uk
