We have been awarded a second star in our triangle of care journey, showing our commitment to involving and supporting carers as equal partners in the care and treatment process.
The triangle of care brings together staff, service users, and carers to strengthen person-centred, recovery-focused care through meaningful collaboration.
It is a three-stage process for organisations to work through, with stars awarded at each stage that highlight good work to ensure carers are included in the care we give to our service users.
Last year, we earned the first star for our work with carers in inpatient mental health settings. Achieving our second star now reflects our hard work to extend this to our community services.
The triangle of care programme sets out a national framework of six key standards that ensure carers are involved and supported throughout the care journey. These include identifying carers early, staff training in carer engagement, clear policies on information sharing, defined carer-focused roles, accessible service information for carers, and a robust range of carer support services.
The award comes after a presentation to a triangle of care board in June.
Zoe Dodd, our peer support lead, said: "We are really proud of our carers. They are integral to everything we do to support service users and vital in driving change.
"We remain committed to continuing this work."
Mary Patel, Carers Trust's triangle of care programme lead, said: "We’re delighted that Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust has achieved stage two of triangle of care. The trust has shown clear progress in ensuring carers are involved in its work and has people with experience of caring in volunteer and paid roles.
"It’s good to see that valuable relationships with local carer organisations have also been established and led to staff training. We look forward to working with the Trust as it continues its journey to firmly embed carers in its everyday work."
