Listening, learning and challenging at the Working Together Conference 2022

Our Working Together Conference took place on Wednesday 2 November and here are some of the best photos and highlights from the day.

The theme this year was 'Allyship - unity in diversity' and we had a packed agenda of challenging and interesting talks and workshops.

The conference was organised by our Ethnically Diverse Staff Network Group.

We kicked off with Cavita Chapman talking about allyship and activism before Professor Kevin Hylton, Chair of the Sheffield Race Equality Commission (REC), delivered our keynote speech on the REC's findings and how these impact organisations and the population.

Paulette Cammidge shared her journey as outgoing chair of the Ethnically Diverse Staff Network Group. Paulette discussed our anti-racism statement which was introduced in 2021. This makes it clear that racism has no place in SHSC.

Lin Harrison and Saafi Mousa explored how we might all start to engage in conversations about race and other protected characteristics.

We heard from the front line about addressing hate crime, including contributions from South Yorkshire Police.

There was a range of workshops in the afternoon on the LGBTQIA+ experience of being ethnically diverse, the labelling of and projections on black and brown women in modern society, and what is meant by allyship.

Jan Ditheridge, our Chief Executive, gave a summary to round off what was an important day of listening and learning.
