Final service user says goodbye to Buckwood View

The final resident at the Buckwood View nursing home has moved to her new home, meaning all service users have now left the site as it is prepared to be closed.

The 18 bed nursing home for people living in Sheffield who have a learning disability is run by the Guinness Partnership, with SHSC providing the care.

Last year the Guinness Partnership decided to close the site, and we have been working alongside them since then to help all residents and staff at Buckwood to find new homes.

Richard Bulmer, head of service, said: “It is a poignant milestone now that the last resident has moved to her new home today. The moves of all the residents have been organised in a thoughtful and compassionate way with staff going the extra mile to make sure they have had safe and considered moves. I would like to thank all who were involved in making the process a success.

“I would also like to thank the staff at Buckwood for their collaboration as we have found them new placements at SHSC, and to managers in other units who have been so welcoming to these staff who are undergoing a big personal change after many have spent so long providing care at Buckwood – some for more than 25 years.”

The closure of the site will now enter its final stages and the building itself will be handed back to Sheffield City Council.

Buckwood View will close with a final CQC rating of good in all areas.
