Fantastic evening for SHSC at the HSJ Patient Safety Awards

Congratulations to Team SHSC after an award filled night at the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Patient Safety Awards.

The prestigious awards help drive improvements in culture and quality across the NHS.

At the ceremony, which was held last night (Monday 18 September), we were shortlisted for five awards in total:

  • Community Care initiative of the year award
  • Mental Health Safety Improvement Award (we had two nominations in this category)
  • Patient Safety Team of the year award
  • Developing a Positive Safety Culture award

And we took home the Community Care Initiative of the Year award for our holistic care in the community and the work we do to empower mental health staff to provide better care for physical health for people with mental health illness in the community.

In their award citation the judges praised the team's "vital work on focussing on patients' needs and safety during medical intervention."

And the fantastic news didn't stop there. We also received three highly commended awards for our work in the Developing a Positive Safety Culture award, Patient Safety Team of the Year and Mental Health Safety Improvement award categories.

Alison Lovatt is the Improvement Academy’s (IA) Director of Nursing. Speaking about being highly commended in the Mental Health Safety Improvement award category, Alison said: "The High Commendation that G1 received from the HSJ is truly deserved. They are a great team and they have embraced the IA’S Safety Huddles to make an impressive reduction in falls. They are a joy to work with. Congratulations to them."

Great work everyone! These awards show our commitment to quality.
