2. Something for everyone

Sheffield is a vibrant city and there's something for everyone. Kelham Island was named as one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world (and fifth coolest in the UK) by Time Out magazine, Sheffield International Documentary Festival attracts filmmakers from around the world and at the Sheffield Food Festival you can taste the culinary delights this city has to offer. 3. Beautiful countryside

There's a reason why Sheffield is known as 'The Outdoor City'. With the Peak District right on our doorstep, Sheffield is home to lots of outdoor activities including walking, fell running and climbing. 

4. Greenest city in the UK

Sheffield may well be known as the Steel City, but actually we're now the Green City. With approximately four trees per person, 80 parks and 650 designated green spaces, Sheffield is one of the greenest cities in Europe.

5. One for the history books

Sheffield has lots of interesting heritage sites which are well worth a visit. Attractions range from the Sheffield Cathedral and Manor Lodge, to the National Emergency Services Museum and Weston Park Museum (which features a pair of Sheffield native Michael Palin's pants!)

6. City of culture

Over 7% of the city's population is employed within the creative industry, which means there's plenty to get involved in. You could watch a play at the world famous Crucible Theatre (just check the snooker isn't on), view world famous exhibitions at the Millennium Gallery or visit the Winter Garden, the largest urban glass house in Europe.

If you head down to the famous Showroom Cinema you might even catch a screening of The Full Monty or There's Something about Jamie!

7. A village the size of a city

Sheffield may be a city, but people who live here often describe it as a village because of how friendly everyone is and the true community feel. No matter whether you're a born and bred Sheffield native or fresh off the train, everyone is welcome. 

8. Rome in disguise

Never mind the seven hills of Rome, try the seven hills of Sheffield. You'll definitely get your steps in as well as well as taking in some great views.

It's no wonder Jessica Ennis-Hill won all her gold medals training on the slopes of Sheffield!

9. Unique cuisine

Our very own special sauce, Henderson's Relish, complements any meal perfectly...any meal. Whatever you do though, don't mention that other sauce from Worcestershire.

10. World class sport

From the Sheffield Steelers (ice hockey) and the Tigers (speedway), to the Eagles (rugby) and Sharks (basketball) if you like sport, Sheffield has got you covered. 

All that and we haven't even mention the Blades, the Owls or Sheffield FC, the world's first football club.
