Workforce Strategy (Word 412KB)
Following the outcome of the Government’s review of the processes for vetting and registering individuals who want to work or volunteer with children and vulnerable adults, the Trust has further considered its current practice of renewing CRB checks every three years.
Given the proposals to develop and introduce the concept of updated criminal record disclosures as a new service, the Trust has decided to ‘stay’ any CRB renewals pending the introduction of the new service. This is, in fact, consistent with the situation already existing for the other Trusts within Sheffield. Consequently there will be no general requirement to seek renewals of CRB checks.
There are a limited number of situations where there may be a regulatory or contractual requirement to continue the three year renewal and these renewals will continue.
The absence of the renewal process does not remove the contractual obligation on staff to immediately notify their line manager if they are cautioned, charged with or convicted of a criminal offence which might affect their employment with the Trust. Failure to do so will be regarded as a disciplinary offence.
CRB checks for new employees will continue to be carried out. The decision above only applies to renewals.
